@lambeth_council How can I speed up the rate of decomposition? #compost4lambeth

Thank you very much for your question. To speed up the process, make sure you’re not putting anything too big into your bin. Try to chop up your waste into smaller pieces before composting. Also, place your bin in a partially sunny spot if possible, as the heat will help to get things going. Finally, make sure you have a good balance between ‘green’ and ‘brown’ ingredients. Good luck!

@lambeth_council Both. What’s the size/texture limit beyond which they should be collected rather than composted at home? #compost4lambeth

    Hi Mike

You shouldn’t put anything too large into your bin as it will take a long time to break down. Cut waste up as small as you can and add it bit by bit if you have a lot. Larger items such as branches can be collected using the garden waste service.

If you are using the garden waste service, you can put in any of the items listed on the web page. All waste is shredded at the reprocessing facility to speed up the process.
