Recycling – let’s get it right

newcampaignlorryHave you seen the new campaign on the side of our recycling and refuse lorries yet? Whilst out and about collecting the borough’s rubbish, the lorries are carrying the new ‘Recycling – let’s get it right’ message.

Unfortunately, some residents are putting non-recyclable items into their orange sacks and estate recycling bins resulting in an extra £0.5m per year on our disposal costs. This is due to the non-recyclable waste having to be processed twice. Firstly at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and then again at the Energy from Waste Plant. We would much prefer to use this money to support other front line services. As such, we are asking all residents to help us clean up our recycling.

Also, when bins are heavily contaminated, for example with food waste, it is necessary to dispose of the waste as rubbish rather than recycling, which is far less preferable environmentally.

Please only put the following items in your recycling sack or estate recycling bin:

Please remember to rinse food packaging and remove all lids.

Further information about recycling can be found on our website and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have. Just send an email to
