March 16, 2012

Doormat with lots of junk mailDo you struggle to open the front door for unwanted leaflets, business cards, catalogues and unaddressed mail? Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration but the average household does receive 650 pieces of junk mail a year, most of which is thrown away unread!

We’ve put together some useful information to help you to reclaim your doormat. Our ten step guide to reducing unwanted mail will show you the easiest and most effective ways to tackle the problem.

For instance, have you put a ‘No Junk Mail Sticker’ on your letterbox? We can provide them free of charge; just email your address to environmentlambeth@lambeth.gov.uk

You could also join the 33,000 Lambeth households already signed up to the Mailing Preference Service, a free service that removes your name from up to 95% of mailing lists and that can stop up to one third of unwanted mail.

Don’t forget that all junk mail can be recycled in your orange bag or estate recycling bin.
